# Buyer agreement

> A written contract between you and your buyer's agent that says what they'll do and how much they're paid. Since August 2024, you sign one before you tour homes with an agent.

## Why it matters to you

The amount is negotiable, and the agreement says whether you pay any of it if the seller doesn't. Check how long it lasts, whether it's exclusive, and how you can end it. See [Step 3: Choose your agent](https://www.buywisehome.com/guide/choose-your-agent).
