Option money

In plain English

In Georgia, a payment to the seller in exchange for your right to walk away for any reason during the due diligence period. The standard contract refers to $10, and a seller can ask for more.

Why it matters to you

Unlike earnest money, option money goes to the seller and they keep it if you walk away. If a seller asks for more, it's part of the price of your walk-away right.
